How to Use Your Own Fat to Look Younger in Jacksonville, FL

Fat Transfer and Injections in Jacksonville, FL

Fat Transfer and Injections in Jacksonville, FLMany people spend all of their time trying to eliminate body fat in an effort to remain healthy and youthful. What many people don’t know, however, is that unwanted body fat can be used to enhance facial volume and reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. This technique, known as fat transfer and injection, is similar to dermal filler and injectable treatments but uses only your own body fat. At Garcia Facial Plastic Surgery, we call this Fat grafting.

How Do Fat Transfer and Injections Work?

The first step in a fat transfer procedure is harvesting unwanted fat from the body. Patients typically choose to remove fat from their abdomen, hips or thighs. Once the fat is collected, it is purified to prepare it for injection. Then, it is injected into the desired areas of the face. When injected into the face, patients can enjoy an increase in facial volume that diminishes the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

Why Would I Choose Fat Transfer and Injection Over Dermal Fillers?

The results from dermal fillers and fat transfers are quite similar, as both offer a natural-looking increase in facial volume. However, many patients prefer fat transfer and injections because the results are truly natural and permanent. The injections that are made into the face involve only your natural body fat, which is what the face loses due to the aging process.

How is Recovery After Fat Transfer and Injections?

The recovery process from fat transfer and injections is slightly longer than with dermal fillers and injectables because the area where the fat is collected from must also heal. Patients can expect mild swelling or bruising in the treatment areas that lasts for a week or two. Despite these effects, patients are generally able to return to normal activities within a few days.

Where Can I Try Fat Transfer and Injections?

To learn more about the fat transfer procedure or try it for yourself, contact us today to schedule a consultation at Garcia Facial Plastic Surgery. We are proud to offer fat transfers and other injectable treatments to men and women living in Palm Coast, Jacksonville, St. Augustine and the surrounding areas of Florida.

Microneedling and PDO Thread Lift in Jacksonville, FL

Microneedling in Jacksonville, FL

Microneedling in Jacksonville, FLGarcia Facial Plastic Surgery offers microneedling and PDO thread lift treatments to increase collagen levels in the skin and reduce signs of aging and skin damage for men and women in Jacksonville, Ponte Verde, and St. Augustine, Florida. Although the treatments have the same goal, they work in different ways.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a non-surgical treatment. First, we apply a topical cream to numb your skin before the procedure. Microneedling is performed manually with a tool that is designed with a series of very small needles. The tool is gently applied to the skin to create the micro-channels or tiny holes. This allows the stimulation of collagen and elastin to heal the skin and produce gradual improvements over time.

What Happens After Microneedling?

After your microneedling treatment, your skin may have a light pink color for the first day or two and there may be some minor swelling or tenderness for 24 hours. After 2-4 weeks, results are noticeable. Collagen continues to develop, with results lasting four to six months. There is minimal downtime, and often the treatment can be done during a lunch break.

What is the PDO Thread Lift?

Unlike microneedling, a PDO thread lift gives you an immediate “lift” that softens wrinkles. First, you will be given local anesthesia in the treatment area to help you remain comfortable. The PolyDioxanOne (PDO) suture is inserted into an acupuncture needle, which is then injected under the skin. The technique is similar to getting stitches for a wound, but the length of sutures under the skin is longer. Over time, the sutures are absorbed by the skin, which creates new collagen around it, producing a smoother, tighter facial appearance.

What Happens After the PDO Thread Lift?

A PDO thread lift can cause some minor swelling or tenderness for 24 to 48 hours after treatment. Additionally, this procedure can be done on a lunch break and requires zero downtime. Patients will notice a roughly 30% improvement right after the treatment as well as increased collagen production for up to six months.

What are the Benefits of Microneedling and PDO Thread Lift?

  • Non-surgical
  • Little to no downtime
  • No incisions or scarring
  • Stimulates natural collagen production to firm skin and soften wrinkles

How Do Treatments with Microneedling or PDO Thread Lift Provide Anti-Aging Benefits?

Microneedling and PDO thread lift treatments work by stimulating collagen production in the skin. These help with a variety of concerns, such as lines, wrinkles, superficial scars, age spots and much more.

Am I a Good Candidate for Microneedling or PDO Thread Lift?

Most men and women who want to reduce lines and wrinkles are good candidates for microneedling or PDO thread lift treatments. Microneedling may be the best option if you have other concerns, such as age spots, acne scars, large pores, and other issues on the skin’s surface.

How Much Does Microneedling and PDO Thread Lift Cost in Jacksonville, FL?

The cost of our microneedling and PDO thread lift treatments is discussed during your consultation once we determine an appropriate plan for your goals. For your convenience, we accept several forms of payment and offer financing options.

As a double board-certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon specializing solely in facial cosmetic procedures, Dr. Phillip Garcia provides his North Florida patients with exceptional results that last. For more information about microneedling and PDO thread lift treatments or to schedule a consultation at one of our five convenient locations in Jacksonville (Town Center), Avondale, Julington Creek, Fleming Island or Palm Coast, please contact us today.

Sunscreen During Winter: Is It Necessary?

Skin Care Products in Jacksonville, FL

Skin Care Products in Jacksonville, FLAs winter approaches, the temperature drops, even here in North Florida. As the outdoors get cooler, the sun seems less prominent. Is it really necessary to wear sunscreen in the winter months? If you’re serious about protecting yourself from the sun and maintaining the healthy skin you have, the answer is yes. Even in the winter, sunscreens plays a big role in skin protection for a number of reasons.

  1. UVA Rays Aren’t Stopped by Winter Clouds

Winter days can be gray, cloudy and overcast. The sun may not shine as bright as other times of the year. However, harmful UVA rays can still penetrate winter clouds. Unlike UVB rays that are present on sunny days and may not penetrate winter clouds, UVA rays are always present. In fact, the UVA rays that can penetrate winter clouds can also damage deeper layers of the skin. Without protection from these rays, there is a possibility of developing cancerous cells or premature aging.

  1. UVA Rays can Affect You Indoors

Even if you spend your winter months indoors, sunscreen is still a good idea. That’s because UVA rays can penetrate glass. Although UVB rays that are mainly present in the spring and summer months are stopped by glass, the majority of UVA rays can enter a home through windows.

  1. The Ozone Layer Doesn’t Provide as Much Protection in Winter

The ozone layer works as a protective blanket of gas that shields the Earth’s surface from much of the sun’s harmful rays. However, in the winter months in North America, the ozone layer actually thins. This means that more harmful sun rays reach Earth’s surface during this time of year.

  1. During Winter, the Earth is Closest to the Sun

The changing seasons are a result of the axis of our planet. During the winter, while it may seem like we’re farther from the sun, North America is actually the closest it gets to the sun all year. This means that the sun’s rays may be even more prominent during these months, making sun protection even more crucial.

Protect Your Skin with Sunscreen All Year Long

Because the threat of the sun’s rays is prominent all year long, it’s important to apply sunscreen on a daily basis, even in the winter. At Garcia Facial Plastic Surgery, we know what sun damage can do to the skin. We provide skin care products and skin cancer treatments to help both protect against the sun’s damage and reverse damaging effects of the sun. To speak with Dr. Garcia about your sun protection needs, schedule a consultation today.

How to Avoid Looking “Plastic”

Plastic Surgery in Jacksonville, FL

Plastic surgery is a great way to correct your facial features to achieve a more balanced appearance and improve your self-esteem. Unfortunately, many people have the misconception that plastic surgery gives you a fake or “plastic” appearance. In actuality, modern plastic surgery techniques can create results that look entirely natural while preserving your unique facial qualities. If you are considering plastic surgery, you are probably looking for long-lasting results that you can be proud of for years to come. Here is everything you need to know about how to avoid the undesirable “plastic” look so that you can achieve beautiful results from your plastic surgery.

Plastic Surgery in Jacksonville, FL

Be Realistic

If your goal is to look like a specific celebrity, you may be let down when the unreasonable expectations you set aren’t met. Getting lip fillers won’t make you look like Angelina Jolie, but they will give you a plumper version of your lips. If you don’t set forth realistic goals, you may find yourself unsatisfied with the results and seeking greater amounts of plastic surgery leading to larger problems.

Educate Yourself

In order to make the most informed decision on what is best for you, it’s incredibly important to do as much research as possible before selecting a procedure and a surgeon. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons is a highly reputable resource to learn about different procedures. Another recommended site is RealSelf, an online community where patients share their real experiences, results, and thoughts. In addition, make sure the surgeon you select to do your procedure is highly regarded, experienced, knowledgeable and caring. Feel free to ask for before and after photos of your surgeon’s previous patients. It is important that your surgeon’s goal is to address your concerns and meet your needs in a safe and realistic way. Most importantly, make sure you select a surgeon who is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery as it is the only meaningful accreditation for plastic surgeons.

Conservative Is Key

When considering any procedure, the goal is always to accentuate how you already look with beautiful, natural results – not alter your appearance. Share your desired look with your surgeon, but make sure to heed their advice if they feel it might be too excessive. Once a procedure is overdone, it can be difficult to correct or reverse. This holds true for surgery as well as less invasive procedures.

Dr. Phillip Garcia specializes solely in cosmetic facial procedures, has performed over 10,000 cosmetic and reconstructive facial procedures and is dedicated to providing his patients with beautiful, natural results. If you are interested in learning more about Dr. Garcia and the services he provides, contact his offices in Jacksonville today!
