Why Millennials Love Botox®

Botox® in Jacksonville, FL

The most popular injectable treatment in the United States is Botox®. Botox® treatments are administered to a whopping six million customers each year. Botox® employs the use of a neurotoxin called Clostridium botulinum that works by paralyzing underlying muscles of the face to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Botox® has been trusted for years by doctors and has recently taken the millennial generation by storm. So, what makes it so appealing?

Botox® in Jacksonville, FL

What is Botox® Treatment Like?

Several small injections of Botox® will then be injected into the muscles of the forehead and around the eyes where trouble areas are usually found. After treatment, a cold pack is typically applied to injection sites to minimize any redness, swelling, and discomfort. Aside from some slight bruising or swelling, recovery is extremely low maintenance and minimal, allowing you to return to your daily routine immediately after your appointment. You can expect to begin seeing results after four or five days post-treatment, with full results setting in after one to two weeks. The effects of Botox® typically last anywhere from three to six months.

 A Low-Cost Treatment

One of the most important factors for millennials, when considering cosmetic treatment, is cost. Cosmetic procedures are notorious for being expensive, especially when follow-up treatments are necessary. However, in contrast to its pricier cousins, Botox® is relatively affordable at as low as $300 per treatment area per session.

 Preventative Botox® Injections
Aside from the cost, the biggest reason for the trend in use of Botox® by millennials is simply that they are the age group that can benefit the most from injections. Lines can begin to form on your face early in life from repetitive muscle movements caused by regular, everyday facial expressions. As aging progresses, facial lines and wrinkles only get deeper, which is why the best time to treat wrinkles is when they first appear in our twenties and thirties. By starting treatment early with preventative Botox® injections, patients not only improve the look of fine lines and wrinkles but can reduce the intensity of wrinkles that will inevitably form in the future with fewer Botox® treatments, effectively “aging slower”.

Double board-certified and North Florida’s Face Expert since 2001, Dr. Phillip Garcia is an expert at providing his patients with beautiful and natural looking results following their Botox® treatments. If you are interested in learning more about Botox® treatment or would like to schedule a consultation, contact our office today. Garcia Facial Plastic Surgery provides their services to the residents of Palm Coast, Avondale, and Fleming Island.

Why Plastic Surgery is Important

Plastic Surgery in Jacksonville, FL

Many people think that plastic surgery is just a means to imitate the exaggerated appearances of celebrities. This couldn’t be further from the truth, though, as plastic surgery provides a way for men and women of all ages to correct their insecurities and even restore the function or wholeness of several areas of the body. For this reason, plastic surgery is an incredibly important field of medicine.

Cosmetic Surgery vs. Plastic Surgery

Widely considered synonymous terms, plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery are not one and the same. While both specialties are closely related in their goal of improving a patient’s body, their training, research (take out: ,) and goals for patient outcomes contrast greatly. Cosmetic surgery is focused on implementing surgical techniques to improve a patient’s physical appearance, focusing on symmetry, proportion (take out: ,) and aesthetic appeal. Some of its most noted procedures include breast enhancement, facial or body contouring (take out: ,) and skin rejuvenation. In contrast, plastic surgery is reconstructive in nature. Its main concerns are correcting facial and body defects resulting from trauma, disease, birth disorders (take out: ,) and burns. Important life-changing plastic surgery procedures include:Plastic Surgery in Jacksonville, FL

  • Hand surgery
  • Scar revision surgery
  • Breast reconstruction
  • Burn repair surgery
  • Congenital defect repairs such as cleft palates
  • Mohs closure

Self-Esteem

Apart from repairing physical damage caused by illness and injury, plastic surgery can also play an important role in boosting patients’ self-esteem (take out: , confidence,) and quality of life. Patients seeking to correct a birth defect often worry about how others perceive them when they are out in public. After surgery, they report feeling more comfortable and confident in public situations. Those that undergo plastic surgery for cosmetic benefits report similar feelings of freedom and confidence that even inspire positive changes in diet and exercise habits, leading to a healthier and happier life.

Co-Author of Just Faces, A Guide to Facial Plastic Surgery, Dr. Phillip Garcia is the face expert of North Florida. Having performed over 10,000 cosmetic & reconstructive facial procedures, he and his skilled staff are prepared to offer you their services for any of your facial cosmetic needs. When Is Plastic Surgery Too Much?

Plastic Surgery in Jacksonville, FL

It can start out as a simple procedure, just a little Botox®, but once you get comfortable with that, you begin to venture into a greater realm of cosmetic possibilities. Facelifts, butt lifts, and neck lifts, oh my! Maybe you’re considering plastic surgery for yourself, but are scared of the possibility of going too far. It can be hard to know when to draw the line. Below, we’ve covered the basics to help guide you through determining how much plastic surgery is just too much.

Why Do Some People Overdo It?

During an initial consultation, a plastic surgeon will typically evaluate a patient’s mental health to determine if they are a good candidate for cosmetic surgery. This is to get a feel for how realistic the patient’s concerns and expectations are, so they can predict if plastic surgery may become problematic. It is not uncommon to see a patient suffering from Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), a condition that causes the person to focus or even obsess on a specific bodily flaw, which is most of the time very small or imagined. These patients are typically not good candidates for cosmetic surgery as repeated attempts to fix their perceived problem can lead to more serious problems. In cases such as these, a surgeon may recommend the patient receive counseling as an alternative.

 Finding the Right Balance

Regardless of the possible negative outcomes, if exercised properly, having cosmetic surgery is not only safe, but a great option to achieve a desired look. During your consultation, your plastic surgeon will want to ensure you have a healthy and realistic outlook on surgery by asking more about your desires and motives. Plastic surgery can be a beneficial experience for those who:Plastic Surgery in Jacksonville, FL

  • Have a healthy self-esteem
  • Are in good mental and physical health
  • Have considered plastic surgery carefully
  • Have realistic expectations of their surgical results
  • Are looking to better their well-being and confidence

Regardless of your cosmetic goals, if you’re pursuing plastic surgery for positive reasons, select a great surgeon.  You can have beautiful, natural results.

Allowing Follow-Up

It is important to note, however, that while having repeated procedures can lead to further issues, it is not always problematic and is, at times, necessary. Many procedures actually require follow-up later on. While cosmetic procedures can improve your overall appearance, it doesn’t stall the aging process. Treated areas will continue to age and may need to be touched up over time. In this case, your surgeon will help you decide how often and what amount of cosmetic touch up is necessary to keep up optimal results.

Garcia Facial Plastic Surgery, led by double board-certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Phillip Garcia, is the leading provider for facial surgery procedures in North Florida. Residents of Jacksonville, Town Center, Avondale, and the neighboring communities can contact us today to schedule a consultation at one of our offices.

The Importance of Plastic Surgery

Plastic Surgery in Jacksonville, FL

Plastic Surgery in Jacksonville, FLWhether we like it or not, the aging process takes a toll on us all. Regardless of how hard we try to avoid it, gravity, environmental exposure and genetics will eventually begin to reveal our age. And, while some tolerate aging as a natural part of life, there is certainly no need to settle for this new look, if it is not one that makes you feel your best. Plastic surgery is an important and helpful solution to address some of the most common aesthetic concerns we face.

You Can Boost Your Confidence

One of the key benefits of plastic surgery is its ability to boost confidence and put a spring back in your step. Often, when we age and believe our wrinkles and bags are to our detriment, we pull away from the activities that matter most. With a plastic surgery procedure to address these concerns, you can get back to feeling positive about yourself, which will, in turn, make you more confident in every endeavor.

You Can Look as Young as You Feel

Many of our patients complain that while they still feel energetic and vibrant, their appearance tells a different story. It can be confusing and disheartening to look in the mirror and feel as though the way you perceive yourself externally is not the same as the way you feel internally. Fortunately, plastic surgery can take years off, so that you can look just as young as you feel.

Of course, when you work with Garcia Facial Plastic Surgery, you can also rest assured that your results will look natural and not at all forced. We believe in celebrating your natural beauty and using our plastic surgery techniques to enhance what is already there.

You Can Age With Grace

One of the best aspects of plastic surgery is that it allows you to age exactly the way you want. Now, you are in control of how much or how little the signs of aging impact your life. And having a choice can go a long way to improving your quality of life for many years to come.

Garcia Facial Plastic Surgery: A Choice You Can Trust

At Garcia Facial Plastic Surgery, there is nothing we enjoy more than helping our clients achieve the looks they desire. Dr. J. Can Plastic Surgery Make My Eyes Bigger?

Facelift in Jacksonville, FL

Blepharoplasty in Jacksonville, FL

For many, the eyes are one of the most important features on the body. After all, in both personal and professional situations, the eyes have the potential to make or break a first impression. So, if you feel that your eyes are not as large as you would like and that the size of your eyes could be negatively impacting your experiences, plastic surgery can help.

Consider Eyelid Surgery

Also known as blepharoplasty, eyelid surgery is a procedure that makes the eyes appear more energized, youthful and bright. If you have drooping eyelids or bags under the eyes, your eyes will appear smaller and less impressive. That is why blepharoplasty is a successful choice, as it reduces the sagging skin and fat that could be distracting from the natural beauty of your eyes.

How Will Eyelid Surgery Help?

During a blepharoplasty procedure, you will be under twilight anesthesia. For upper eyelid surgery, the incision will be made in the crease of the upper eyelid. Your surgeon will remove excess skin and the fatty bulge in the interior corner of the eye. For lower eyelid surgery, an incision is made under the eyelashes in the first crease to address the fatty pockets there. Removing the excess skin and fat will restore your eyes to their younger, larger appearance, and you will look more awake and refreshed. If you have both upper and lower eyelid surgery, you can expect the entire procedure to take thirty minutes to an hour.

When Will My Eyes Start Looking Bigger?

After your surgery, you will have a temporary bandage on the eyelids. You can also expect some mild bruising and swelling, which will resolve completely in two to four weeks. After seven days, your stitches will be removed. However, we recommend our patients wait seven to 10 days before returning to work.

Once the swelling has subsided, you will be able to enjoy the bigger look of your eyes. If during your recovery, you experience tightness or soreness in the eyelids, pain medication can be prescribed. Once you are fully healed, you can expect your results to last for many years, with some patients enjoying their new eyes for 10-15 years. Take a look at our before and after photos to see what you can expect.

What is the Best Age for a Facelift?

Facelift in Jacksonville, FL

Facelift in Jacksonville, FL

If you are interested in taking years off of your face, a facelift is a trusted and respected solution. However, when many people think of the facelift procedure, they assume that age is a major factor in determining how successful the results will ultimately be. At Garcia Facial Plastic Surgery, while we believe that age can play a role, it is just one of many factors that must be taken into consideration.

Understanding the Facelift Procedure

One of the first steps to determining if a facelift is right for you, in combination with your age, is knowing what will take place. During the surgery, Dr. J. Phillip Garcia will make incisions above the hairline at the temples, as well as in the creases around the ears. He will lift the sagging muscles taught, resculpt the features of the face, and redrape the skin.

Due to the fact that a facelift is performed under twilight anesthesia, it is important to take into consideration whether you are appropriately physically fit before having this operation. Some patients may be healthier at 45, while others may be healthier at 75. Your level of physical fitness is a very individual and personal discussion that you will need to have with your surgeon.

Recovery Takes Time

Due to the nature of the procedure, we recommend taking about a week to recover. During this time, it is not uncommon to see bruising and swelling. We also recommend that our patients sleep with their heads elevated, which may cause some stiffness in the neck.

Our goal is always to offer the most beautiful and natural results that we can, so you will still look like yourself, just like a more youthful and energized version. And, while aging will affect everyone differently, in many cases, the results will last for the rest of your life.

Let Us Answer Your Facelift Questions

Simply put, there is no best age for a facelift. Depending on your personal level of health and the goals you have for the procedure, the best age will vary from person to person. Dr. J. Phillip Garcia is a double board certified surgeon and Co-Author of Just Faces, A Guide to Facial Plastic Surgery. When you trust us with your facelift, you will be taken care of, from start to finish.

Our office has convenient locations in Jacksonville/Town Center, Julington Creek, Fleming Island, Avondale and Palm Coast. If you have questions about whether or not a facelift can give you the look you desire, take a look at our before and after photos and do not hesitate to contact us to get started.

Facts About Facial Implants

Blepharoplasty in Jacksonville, FL

Cheek Implants in Jacksonville, FL

Our face is often what makes a first impression in both professional and personal settings, so it only makes sense that we would want to feel good about how we look. Whether due to age or natural build, you may have found that your face is not as full as you would like. If this is the case, then facial implants may be the solution. At Garcia Facial Plastic Surgery, we are proud to offer both cheek and chin implants, depending on your body’s unique needs. Here are a few facts you should know:

Implants are Made from Medical-Grade Material

Our cheek implants are made from Silastic®, while our chin implants are made from either Silastic® or Mersilene® mesh. Both are non-absorbable, soft, medical-grade materials that have been trusted by surgeons for years. This means that you can rest assured your implants will be the safest and most reliable on the market.

Facial Implants Can Complement Other Procedures

In addition to adding volume and definition to the face, one of the main benefits of facial implants is the fact that they can easily be combined with other surgeries. As a result, you can improve the entire look of your face, while only having to handle one recovery period. Both cheek and chin implants can be combined with rhinoplasty or a facelift procedure.

During the facial implant surgery, the implants will be inserted through tiny incisions and, for cheek implants, may be set in place with a small screw. Incisions are made inside the mouth, and absorbable sutures are used.

Your Results Will Be Natural and Beautiful

At Garcia Facial Plastic Surgery, we pride ourselves on providing only the most beautiful and natural-looking results possible. For chin augmentation surgery, you can expect a recovery time of about a week. Cheek augmentation surgery may require about two weeks off. During this recovery period, you can expect to see some bruising and swelling. Any sensations of tightness will go down as the swelling decreases. Once you have fully recovered, you can expect to enjoy the results of your procedure for a lifetime.
