Although we cannot stop the effects of aging, many individuals choose to rejuvenate their appearance by having a facelift. This procedure, medically called rhytidectomy, is among the most commonly performed plastic surgery procedures in the world. Conveniently located in Jacksonville, Garcia Facial Plastic Surgery, led by double board-certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Phillip Garcia, offers facelifts for men and women living in Ponte Vedra Beach, Orange Park, Lakeside and nearby areas in North Florida.
What Is A Facelift?
Facelift (or rhytidectomy) surgery is meant to address the signs of facial aging, particularly in the lower cheek and neck. These signs of aging include the jowls in the lower cheek and the excess skin of the neck. If these signs of aging are concerns of yours when you look in the mirror, the solution may be a facelift.

How Much Does a Facelift Cost in Jacksonville?
Cosmetic surgery of the face varies an immense amount in terms of cost. Depending on what conditions one is trying to improve, the cost of a facelift can range from that of skin care products to a more involved procedure. The truth is that while not as expensive as once thought, making an investment in the way you look and more importantly the way you perceive yourself is well worth it.
On the issue of the price of facelift surgery, think about this. You may have invested several thousands of dollars into the automobile of your dreams. You care for it, you clean it, put good gasoline in the engine.
Now you are faced with making a much smaller financial commitment in yourself. This will be the look of your dreams. You’ve already cared for your face, kept it out of the sun, eaten well, exercised, etc.
Garcia Facial Plastic Surgery makes facial surgery procedures available and affordable for everyone by providing easy financing options and accepting flexible payment options, such as cash, major credit cards and personal checks for a facelift.
Can a Facelift Reverse Effects of Aging?
As the face ages, jowls, which is Latin for “broken jawline”, begin to develop as a result of the cheek losing its strength with the deeper underlying musculature. As the muscle sags, it takes the more superficial fat and skin with it creating the appearance of a “jowl” along the jawline.
The neck ages in a different manner when the superficial muscle of the neck, called the platysma falls in a downward direction and splays apart in the middle under the chin. This “shifting” of the muscle takes the more superficial fat and skin with it and causes the appearance of aging.
Facelift Patient Testimonial
“I had a facelift with Dr. Garcia three and a half months ago and could not be any happier. His results are so natural, and the incisions aren’t even noticeable. He makes you feel like one of the family when you walk into the office, and that is so important when having cosmetic facial surgery. I highly recommend Dr. Garcia to anyone. We are very grateful and thankful to him and his staff.” — C.K.
Who Is The Ideal Candidate For A Facelift?
Almost any adult may be a good candidate for a facelift as long as they are healthy and have recently begun to show signs of aging. If you are considering a facelift, you should also have realistic expectations. While a facelift may help you look younger, it will not stop the aging process, and proper skin care will be required after the procedure to protect your skin and maintain results as long as possible.
What Should I Expect On The Day Of My Facelift?
Upon admission to the center, your vital signs will be checked, and you will be asked to put on a gown. Your face will be marked with a marker.
The duration of the actual facelift procedure varies from patient to patient; however, in most cases the surgery is performed over two to four hours.
One of the major advantages of how we perform our facelift surgery is that we do not shave any of your hair.
During the facelift procedure, excess skin is removed, underlying muscle tissue is pulled taut, facial contours are resculpted, and the skin is redraped. This procedure eliminates sagging facial skin, jowls, and loose neck skin.
Incisions are usually made above the hairline at the temples and continue in front of and behind the ears. The skin is lifted, and the underlying muscle tissue is tightened and resculpted. The skin is then pulled tight over the muscle, and any excess skin is eliminated. A tiny incision may also be required underneath the chin to allow for extraction of excess fat from the neck and chin.
Immediately following your facelift procedure, it is normal to expect some minor swelling and bruising, although we will ensure that you will have very little pain or discomfort. Most of our patients (90 to 95 percent) take only a few pain pills for the first two days after surgery and usually only have to take Tylenol for relief of the tightness. The most likely discomfort that you may have is a very mild neck and back ache from sleeping with extra pillows at night. The lack of pain and discomfort after facelift surgery many times surprises the majority of our facelift patients.
The most common complaint among patients is a tight sensation in the skin, which is totally normal. As the tissues are healing during your recovery, it is typical for the swelling and tightness to peak on the third day, and then quickly subside by the fifth day. Since we recommend that you sleep in an elevated position, you may also notice some tightness in your neck caused by this, but this too will subside gradually.
Since incisions are required to perform a facelift, some scarring is inevitable; however, Dr. Garcia’s skillful hand will ensure that the incisions are made in places where scars can be easily hidden, such as behind the ear. The scars will also diminish gradually over time.
We do not routinely use drains after any of our facelift surgeries simply because of the discomfort that they cause. We will use a compressive type of bandage dressing that helps to limit the amount of bruising and swelling after your surgery. This dressing is removed the morning after surgery.
For the most part, none of our facelift procedures, even the most complex ones, will put you out more than one week. Even our patients that have the most work done will go out at one week with makeup on and not have anyone notice that they had surgery.
The results of a facelift are immediately noticeable after surgery, but will become much more apparent once most the swelling subsides, usually a few weeks after the procedure is performed. The final, refined results will typically be visible within three to six months, by which time all of the swelling will have subsided completely.
Because aging affects us all differently, the duration of results will naturally vary. Most patients are able to enjoy the benefits of the procedure for the remainder of their lives.
You will feel a little stiff in your neck for up to two weeks after your facelift. If a mini facelift was performed and we did not address your neck, then your facelift recovery will be much quicker. At two weeks, you can resume your physical activities, such as running and lifting objects. You will find that your body will be slow to “get back on pace” after facelift surgery.
Good dietary and exercise habits during your facelift recovery cannot be overemphasized. We have developed a supplement system called Reviva™. This system is geared exclusively to “boosting” your body’s healing mechanism, allowing your body to heal itself that much faster after any procedure. With these healing vitamins, herbs and supplements our patients are reporting a nearly 30 percent reduction in the amount of swelling, bruising and overall recovery time.
Our board-certified facelift specialist will provide you with a detailed set of instructions that if followed will help tremendously in ensuring a rapid recovery. In addition, our book written by our facial specialist, Dr. Phillip Garcia, has all of the postoperative instructions for all facial procedures.
The before/after facelift photographs are taken at three months after surgery. The before and after results are compared with each other at that time, and the overwhelming majority of our patients are extremely happy with their facelift results.
This is a difficult question to answer. You may want a very subtle change, or you may need a bigger change. This is something that we discuss with our patients at the time of their facelift consultation.
Our aim is to make a difference that is noticeable, but noticeable in a natural fashion.
We always ask our patients during their facelift recovery what other individuals are saying about them. The answer that we routinely get is that other people think they look refreshed, well rested or are coming from vacation. Something looks different, but other people just cannot put their finger on it.
The goal of everything we are doing is for you to see the difference.
We will go over your medication history in detail on the day of your consultation. Please make sure to tell us about any and all medications that you are taking even on an as needed basis.
We will provide you with an extensive list of medications, herbs, supplements and potables that should be avoided up to two weeks in advance prior to your surgery.
