What is a Facelift?

A facelift, also known as rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that aims to improve the appearance of the face by tightening and lifting the skin and underlying tissues. The procedure typically targets the mid and lower face, including the cheeks, jawline, and neck. Facelift surgery is one of the most impactful treatments for addressing signs of aging in the face and neck.

“It’s been an overall great experience. It’s amazing how much it improves your confidence.” – Cindy

What are the Types of Facelift Surgeries?

1FULL FACELIFT

The most common facelift surgery is the full or traditional facelift. This procedure addresses the mid and lower face, including the cheeks, jawline, and neck. This is done using incisions made along the hairline at the temples, extending down in front of the ear and around the earlobe, and continuing behind the ear and into the lower scalp. The incisions are carefully placed in natural creases and contours to minimize visibility after healing. Through these incisions, the surgeon tightens and repositions the underlying tissues of the face and neck to create a more youthful and refreshed appearance.

2MINI FACELIFT

Another common facelift technique is the mini facelift. This procedure is similar to a traditional facelift, but is less invasive and addresses only the lower face and neck. This is done using smaller incisions that are usually only made in front of the ears and may not extend into the hairline or scalp. The incisions used in a mini facelift are shorter and the recovery time is shorter as well, but the results are less dramatic and less extensive than a full facelift.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How Much Does a Facelift Cost In Jacksonville?

The average cost of a facelift varies from one community to the other with some small variations. Factors such as the facility where the facelift will be performed and the type of anesthesia used will influence the final cost of the surgery. Jacksonville facelift surgery varies in price range according to these factors. Garcia Facial Plastic Surgery makes facial surgery procedures available and affordable for everyone. Our office provides a wide array of payment options, including easy financing. We also accept cash, major credit cards and personal checks for facelift surgery and other procedures.

  • When Is The Best Time For Facelift?

The best time for a facelift can vary depending on the individual and their specific needs and goals. Generally, it is recommended to wait until the signs of aging in the face and neck become more prominent and noticeable before considering a facelift. This may be around the age of 40 or 50, but can vary depending on factors such as genetics and lifestyle habits. It’s also important to consider your overall health and wellness.

  • How Do I Prepare For My Facelift?

We will provide all of your preoperative and postoperative instructions prior to your facelift. We will ask you to stop certain vitamins, herbs and medications, including aspirin and ibuprofen, among others. Facelift recovery is shortened if patients follow our very specific instructions.

  • Where Will My Facelift Be Performed?

We perform our facelift procedures in our state-accredited operating room under the anesthesia care of board-certified anesthesiologists.

  • What Can I Expect During Facelift Surgery?

Facelift surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia. The patient sleeps throughout the procedure, has no recollection of the procedure and has no discomfort whatsoever throughout the procedure.

The incisions used during a facelift will depend on whether a full or mini facelift is being performed. Incisions are commonly made along the hairline and around the ears. Through these incisions, Dr. Garcia will tighten and reposition the underlying tissue to create a more youthful and refreshed appearance.

  • What Is Recovery From a Facelift Like?

Immediately after surgery, your face will be bandaged and you may have drains placed to remove excess fluids. Your face will be swollen and bruised, and you may experience some pain and discomfort. Dr. Garcia will provide you with detailed instructions on how to care for yourself during the recovery period, including how to manage pain and swelling, how to clean the incision sites, and when to return for follow-up appointments. This includes that you avoid smoking and keep the head elevated during the first days after the surgery to avoid complications or delays in the healing process. You should also avoid sun exposure and wear sunscreen to protect the healing incision sites.

You should expect to take several days off work and avoid strenuous activities for at least 2-3 weeks, and it can take several weeks for the swelling and bruising to fully subside. You will have some numbness and tightness in the skin and underlying tissues, but this should gradually improve over the next several weeks. You may also experience itching and tingling sensations during the healing process, which is normal.

It’s important to keep in mind that the final results of the facelift may not be visible for several months as the swelling subsides and the tissues settle into their new position.
