What Is Skin Resurfacing?
Skin resurfacing is a procedure that recontours the outer (epidermis) and inner (dermis) layers of the skin. Facial resurfacing has been likened more to an art than a science, requiring a profound understanding of the anatomy and the physiology of the skin. After all, the skin is your body’s largest organ and sheds and regenerates itself almost daily. Skin resurfacing recontours the outer and inner layers of the skin.

How Much Do Chemical Peels Cost for Jacksonville Residents?
Since chemical peels are considered to be a cosmetic treatment, its costs are not normally covered by insurance plans. However, we accept numerous payment options at Garcia Facial Plastic Surgery, including cash, checks, and major credit cards. Financing is also available.
Why Does My Skin Age?
As we age, we lose elasticity in the deeper layers of our skin. Collagen, which serves as a support scaffold for the dermis, begins to fray and loosens its attachments to nearby collagen fibrils and dries up. This causes the skin to become loose and less elastic, allowing wrinkles to form. Any facial resurfacing procedure, whether it be mechanical (microneedling) or chemical (peels) will help tighten that collagen layer, returning strength and shape to the skin.
Are Chemical Peels Only For The Face?
Your face isn’t the only body part that can benefit from chemical peels. Jacksonville-based Garcia Facial Plastic Surgery offers chemical peels for the neck, hands, and chest – a popular remedy for those brown spots caused by sun exposure or aging. The peel is easily administered, and you’ll see results within 2-4 weeks. We highly recommend you wear sunscreen after your treatments to keep spots from reemerging.

CHEMICAL PEELS POST CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Also called a superficial chemical peel, a light peel is an accelerated form of exfoliation using a chemical element that penetrates into the outermost layer of the skin and gives it a youthful glow. The peel destroys damaged layers on the skin’s surface and stimulates both the growth of new epidermal skin cells and the production of collagen, allowing for tighter, brighter skin. As an antioxidant, a light peel may also reduce acne breakouts and acne scarring.
Patients who use Retin-A must stop using this products at least three days prior to undergoing a light chemical peel. Jacksonville’s Garcia Facial Plastic Surgery requires this because these products thin the skin and can cause the chemical agent to seep too deeply into the skin. Typically patients can resume Retin-A use three days after a light facial peel. Light peels yield the best results when done as a series of three or more treatments, and there’s no minimal downtime for healing.
Medium Chemical Peels
Medium chemical peels in Jacksonville are a hot commodity. Florida’s sunny climate lends a propensity to develop freckles or sun spots, thanks to super-charged, sun-driven melanin production. When a medium peel is applied to the skin, the peel agent penetrates into the upper part of the dermis, eliminating sunspots, as well as the brown discoloration known as age or liver spots. A medium peel also tightens collagen, helping to smooth fine lines and improve mottled skin.
On the day of your medium chemical peel, our aesthetician will cleanse your face to wash away any impurities from the skin, then apply a peeling agent. You may experience a burning sensation, but a fan blowing cool fresh air is kept nearby throughout the procedure. You’ll go home the same day with detailed instructions for caring for the peeled area. Within three days, your skin will begin to peel and by day seven, 75% of the face is healed, revealing smooth new baby skin. Expect to have follow up appointments at week 1 and week 2 and 1 month to monitor progress.
