What is a Neck Lift?

Neck lift surgery, also called platysmaplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that removes excess skin and fat around the neck and jawline to address signs of aging and produce a more defined appearance. Neck lifts are effective for treating sagging skin, wrinkles, jowls and neck bands.

What are the Types of Neck Lift Surgeries?

Neck lifts are generally performed with a combination of techniques depending on patients’ treatment goals. Specifically, neck lift surgery techniques will vary whether patients want to address sagging skin, excess fat, neck bands or any combination of these concerns.

1CERVICOPLASTY

A simple variation of the neck lift is known as cervicoplasty, which only targets sagging skin in the neck. Alone, this technique will not remove excess fat or tighten the neck muscles to correct neck bands.

2NECK LIPOSUCTION

Liposuction is not a neck lift technique, but it is commonly performed alongside neck lift surgery to further sculpt the neck and enhance results. Performed alone, liposuction will not tighten the skin or address neck bands, but it can eliminate unwanted fat in the neck.

3PLATYSMAPLASTY

The most common neck lift surgery is the full platysmaplasty, which typically includes elements of cervicoplasty. In addition to trimming and tightening skin on the neck, platysmaplasty tightens the underlying neck muscles. This reduces the appearances of neck bands to create a more youthful and defined neck.

The average cost of a neck lift varies from one community to the other with some small variations. • When Is The Best Age For Neck Lift?

The best age for a neck lift can vary depending on the individual and their specific needs and goals. Generally, it is recommended to wait until the signs of aging in the neck and jawline become more prominent and noticeable before considering a neck lift. This may be around the late 40s to early 60s, but can vary depending on factors such as genetics and lifestyle habits. It’s also important to consider your overall health and wellness.

  • How Do I Prepare For My Neck Lift?

We will provide all of your preoperative and postoperative instructions prior to your neck lift. We will ask you to stop certain vitamins, herbs and medications, including aspirin and ibuprofen, among others. Neck lift recovery is shortened if patients follow our very specific instructions.

  • Where Will My Neck Lift Be Performed?

  • What Can I Expect During Neck Lift Surgery?

The neck lift is a safe and simple procedure performed on an outpatient basis with either twilight or local anesthesia. Incisions are typically located behind the ears, under the chin or in both regions. During the procedure, the underlying neck muscles are tightened and realigned, excess skin and fat are trimmed away, and the remaining skin is lifted. Incisions are then sutured, and a dressing may be applied.

  • What Is Recovery From a Neck Lift Like?

It is normal to expect some degree of mild swelling and bruising following a neck lift. Pain medication may be prescribed to ease any possibility of discomfort. If a dressing is applied, it is typically removed within a day or two. Absorbable sutures are always used, and these will be removed or trimmed after one week. Patients are usually able to resume regular activities within 2-3 weeks.
