Would you love to restore youthful volume, contour, and definition to your aging face? Sunken cheeks, a weak chin and other areas where volume loss has occurred, affects not only your appearance but can also affect your self-confidence. With five convenient locations serving Jacksonville, Ponte Vedra, and St. Augustine, the Medical Spa at Garcia Facial Plastic Surgery, led by double board-certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Phillip Garcia, can help the residents of North Florida through the use of fat transfer and injections (facial fat grafting).
What is Fat Transfer and Injections?
Fat transfer injections, or facial fat grafting, involves the actual transplant of your body’s own live fat cells and transferring them to your face. These fat cells remain alive after the transplant and maintain their volume. With careful techniques, the fat can be placed in virtually any part of the face to give the face a more youthful full appearance.
We will many times offer fat grafting at the same time as facelift surgery to give a more youthful looking face.
Jacksonville fat grafting surgeon, Dr. Phillip Garcia will discuss fat grafting as an adjunct procedure to your facelift or as an independent procedure.
Benefits of Fat Transfer and Injections
Most facial fat grafting patients report smoother skin and a more natural-looking profile as a result of this treatment. Additionally, they enjoy the following benefits:
- Improved self-confidence and self-esteem
- Enhanced skin volume and contour
Preparing for Fat Transfer and Injections
No special preparation is required prior to the fat grafting procedure, although you must be in overall good health. The procedure takes about one to two hours and is usually performed under local anesthesia. The doctor will mark the areas where the fat will be grafted and the sites where it is to be injected. A fine-gauge needle is used to inject the fat into the areas of the face where increased volume is desired.
Where Do You Take The Fat From?
Jacksonville plastic surgeon Phillip Garcia, M.D., takes fat from virtually anywhere in the body; however, we prefer to take fat from the abdomen, hips, thighs and the flank area. This is done through a small incision the size of a pen tip hidden in an inconspicuous area.
Fat Transfer and Injections Recovery
Some patients report mild discomfort and occasional bruising in the areas where the fat has been extracted, as well as the injection sites. Ice packs and pain medication may be used to alleviate discomfort and minimize swelling. You will be free to return to normal activities within two weeks after surgery; however, Dr. Garcia will advise you as to when you can return to your regular exercise regimen.
Is Fat Transfer and Injections Right for Me?
Individuals who are between the ages of 30 and 70, in overall good health, who have a loss of volume or sagging skin in the face, display early signs of aging, or want to improve their appearance through the use of facial fat grafting combined with a brow lift or facelift may be excellent candidates for fat transfer injections. At your initial consultation with Dr. Garcia, he will determine if facial fat grafting is right for you.
What to Expect During Your Fat Transfer and Injections Consultation?
Facial fat grafting is only one of the many facial surgery options that can be used to deliver increased volume and contour in the face. Dr. Garcia understands that this is a very personal procedure, and you may have many questions. He will take the time to personally address each of your concerns and explain pre- and post-operative instructions. The cost of your fat grafting treatment will also be discussed during this consultation.
