What is Skin Resurfacing?

Skin resurfacing is a cosmetic procedure that improves the appearance of skin by creating a controlled injury to the skin to stimulate healing. The procedure helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, sun damage, acne scars, and other blemishes. It also stimulates the production of collagen, which helps to improve skin elasticity and firmness. Skin resurfacing can be performed on various parts of the body, including the face, neck, chest, and hands.

What are the Types of Skin Resurfacing Treatments?

1Chemical Peels

A chemical peel is a cosmetic treatment that involves the application of a chemical solution to the skin to remove damaged outer layers of skin. The solution causes the skin to exfoliate and eventually peel off, revealing smoother, brighter, and more youthful-looking skin underneath. Chemical peels can improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, acne scars, sun damage, and uneven skin tone and texture. They can be performed on various parts of the body, including the face, neck, chest, and hands. We offer chemical peels of varying strengths, including:

  • Light chemical peels
  • Medium chemical peels

2Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion is a skin resurfacing procedure that uses a specialized instrument to remove the top layer of skin, revealing smoother, younger-looking skin beneath. The device is used to gently scrape away the outer layers of skin, allowing new skin cells to grow in their place. Dermabrasion can be used to treat a variety of skin conditions, including acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, age spots, and uneven skin texture. This procedure is performed by Dr. Garcia.

3Laser Peels

A laser peel is a skin resurfacing treatment that rejuvenates the skin. It removes damaged, aged skin to reveal a fresh, healthy glow with improved skin tone, texture, tightening, and clarity. This is performed with laser energy, which is administered precisely and safely according to each patient’s skin type.

What Can Skin Resurfacing Accomplish?

Here are some of the things that skin resurfacing with laser peels, chemical peels, or dermabrasion can accomplish:

  • Reduction in fine lines and wrinkles
  • Improved skin texture
  • Reduction in the appearance of scars, including acne scars
  • Diminished age spots, sun damage, and other forms of hyperpigmentation
  • Improved skin tone and elasticity
  • Increased collagen production

Garcia Facial Plastic Surgery makes skin resurfacing available and affordable for everyone. Our office provides a wide array of payment options, including easy financing. • Can skin resurfacing be combined with other cosmetic treatments?

Yes, skin resurfacing can be combined with other cosmetic treatments, such as injectables or surgical procedures, to achieve more comprehensive results. Dr. Garcia can help you determine if combining treatments is appropriate.

  • Is skin resurfacing only for the face?

Your face isn’t the only body part that can benefit from skin resurfacing. We also offer skin resurfacing for the neck, chest, hands, and arms.

  • How often can you do skin resurfacing?

The frequency of skin resurfacing depends on the specific treatment and the individual’s skin type and condition. In general, it is recommended to wait until the skin has fully healed before undergoing another skin resurfacing treatment. For more aggressive treatments such as deep chemical peels or ablative laser resurfacing, it is typically recommended to wait at least several months before undergoing another treatment. Less aggressive treatments such as microdermabrasion or light chemical peels may be done more frequently, sometimes as often as once a month, to maintain optimal results.
