HOW LONG WILL FACELIFT SURGERY TAKE?

Facelift surgery generally takes 2 to 6 hours and is usually an outpatient procedure. Typically, this surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia, which leaves the patient asleep and without pain for the duration of the procedure. The exact length of surgery will vary depending on the technique used. A full facelift, or traditional facelift, involves incisions made along the hairline and around the ears. This is used for most facelift procedures as it enables Dr. Garcia to access all of the facial tissue necessary to rejuvenate the appearance. A mini facelift requires fewer and shorter incisions. This will give Dr. Garcia limited access to the facial tissue, but enough for him to address wrinkles, lines and sagging skin in the lower face.

HOW LONG WILL FACELIFT RECOVERY TAKE?

The immediate average recovery period after a facelift is typically 1-2 weeks, but it will depend on the individual. During this immediate recovery period, patients can expect to take time off from work and other activities. You will also experience some swelling, bruising, and discomfort around the incision sites. Pain medication will be prescribed to manage any discomfort. The swelling and bruising will typically peak at around 3-5 days and start to subside after 1-2 weeks. We’ll provide specific instructions on how to care for your incision sites and any limitations you’ll need to consider as you progress through the recovery process.

Patients generally begin returning to work about 2 weeks after facelift surgery, but strenuous activities like exercise should be avoided for at least one month. Finally, keep in mind that the final results of the facelift may not be fully visible until several weeks or even months after the surgery, after the swelling and bruising fully subsides.

The recovery process is similar for mini facelifts, except the recovery is slightly accelerated and may take a few weeks less than a full facelift.

Frequently Asked Facelift Surgery Questions

  • Is a facelift a painful surgery?

No, with the anesthetic techniques used at Garcia Facial Plastic Surgery, facelift involves no pain or discomfort during surgery. General anesthesia will be used to perform your facelift, which allows patients to relax comfortably throughout the duration of the procedure.

  • What are the risks of facelift surgery?

As with any surgical procedure, facelift surgery carries some risks and complications. Some of the risks include bleeding, infection, scarring, and anesthesia complications. Some patients may also experience complications related to the healing process. However, these complications occur in less than 1% of facelift procedures. Furthermore, Dr. Garcia’s focus and expertise on facelift techniques help to minimize the risks associated with facelift surgery. As with any major surgery, there will always be risks involved – but under the care of a qualified and experienced surgeon, any significant complications become extremely unlikely.

  • Can I walk after a facelift?

During the day of your surgery, immediately after your procedure, you should rest as much as possible. This means no walking on the first day. Patients can begin very brief periods of light walking the day after surgery, permitting that they feel well enough to get out of bed. However, once patients are capable of light walking, it is actually encouraged to get up and take brief walks. Light walking can help facilitate the healing process by preventing blood clots and enhancing blood circulation.
