What is Recovery from Facial Liposuction Like?

After undergoing facial liposuction surgery, patients can expect to experience some swelling and bruising, which is completely normal. Dr. Garcia can prescribe pain medication to help with any discomfort during the initial recovery period. We’ll apply a compression garment or similar dressing to the lower face to help the recovery process, which will be worn for several days. Patients may also have to follow some dietary restrictions due to the incisions made inside the mouth.

Most patients can return to work and normal activities within a week or two after the procedure. However, strenuous physical activity should be avoided for at least four to six weeks. It is normal for the treated area to feel firm or lumpy for several weeks or even months after the procedure. This will typically improve over time. Full results of facial liposuction may take several months to become apparent, as the swelling continues to subside and the skin adjusts to its new contours.

How Soon After My Facial Liposuction Will My Before and After Photo Be Taken?

We will take your facial liposuction before and after pictures three months after the facial liposuction surgery. The facial lipo photo is an important part of your follow-up visit to Garcia Facial Plastic Surgery. At that time, the facial liposuction before and after photographs will be analyzed by Dr. Garcia and the patient.

Frequently Asked Facial Liposuction Post-Surgical Questions

  • How long does it take to recover from facial liposuction?

The recovery timeline after a facial liposuction procedure can vary depending on several factors, including the patient’s overall health and the extent of the procedure. Generally, however, patients can expect to make a full recovery in as little as 6 weeks. Here is a typical timeline for facial liposuction recovery:

    • Days 1-2:
      • The first two days after the procedure, patients may experience swelling, bruising, and discomfort, which can be managed with pain medication and cold compresses. We’ll apply a compression garment to the treatment area to facilitate the healing process and help with swelling.
    • Days 3-7:
      • By the third to seventh day, swelling and bruising should start to subside, and patients should start to feel more comfortable. You’ll continue wearing the compression garment through the first week.
    • Week 2:
      • By the second week, most patients can return to work and other light activities, but this will depend on how you progress through the recovery process. Dr. Garcia will monitor your progress and provide guidance along the way.
    • Weeks 2-4:
      • Over the course of the second to fourth week, swelling and tenderness should continue to subside, and patients should start to see the full results of the procedure. It is normal for the treatment area to feel firm or lumpy still – this should continue to improve over time, although it may take several weeks.
    • Months 2-3:
      • Patients should be fully back to normal by the end of the 2nd month after their facial liposuction surgery. Results may continue to finalize as residual swelling heals and the facial tissue continues adjusting to surgery, but most of the final results should be visible by this point.
  • How long does facial liposuction last?

Facial liposuction permanently removes fat cells from the treatment areas, meaning that results can last a lifetime. However, the remaining fat cells in the neck and face can still grow larger if the patient gains weight. Additionally, aging and other factors could cause changes in the appearance over time. For these reasons, patients are encouraged to maintain a healthy diet and exercise regimen to prevent weight gain and make their results last as long as possible.

  • What activities should I avoid during facial liposuction recovery?

During the recovery period after facial liposuction, it is important to avoid certain activities to ensure proper healing and minimize the risk of complications. Here are some activities that are should be avoided during facial liposuction recovery:

    • Strenuous exercise
    • Sun exposure
    • Smoking
    • Alcohol consumption

Additionally, it is important to follow any specific post-operative instructions provided by Dr. Garcia to ensure a safe and successful recovery after facial liposuction.

  • How should I sleep after facial liposuction surgery?

After facial liposuction surgery, it is important to sleep in a comfortable and safe position that promotes healing and reduces swelling. You should start by sleeping with your head elevated. This can be done by using a couple of extra pillows to prop your head up above your body. Similarly, you should avoid sleeping on your side for at least the first few weeks. This position can put added pressure on the treatment area that increases swelling.
