What are Facial Implants?

Facial implants are man-made materials that are used to augment the middle and lower thirds of the face, specifically in the cheek and chin areas. They can be used to enhance facial symmetry, help the face appear slimmer or enhance other facial features.

Cheek implants can also address age-related volume loss by restoring volume and definition to the middle area of the face.

“I love it! It makes you feel more comfortable about yourself.” – Nedzad

Chin augmentation, also referred to as mentoplasty, is a cosmetic surgery that enhances the shape and size of a person’s chin, as well as redefines the jawline. This procedure is typically performed when the lower part of the face, specifically the area between the bottom of the nose and the chin, appears either too short or receded on the profile. The use of chin implants can improve not only the vertical height of the chin, but also its projection. The goal of using chin implants for chin augmentation is to create a proportional balance between the upper, middle, and lower parts of the face, balancing out the facial features and resulting in a more aesthetically pleasing appearance.

What are the Types of Facial Implants?

At Garcia Facial Plastic Surgery, our cheek implants are made from Silastic®, which is a non-absorbable, soft, medical-grade implant material that looks and feels completely natural. Chin implants are custom made by us for each patient and are made of either Silastic® or Mersilene® mesh. By custom-making each implant, we can ensure that the shape and size are ideal for your facial anatomy and will produce the best possible results.

1Silastic® Chin & Cheek Implants

One popular type of implant is the silastic implant, which is made of a soft, solid silicone material. Silastic® implants are often preferred because they feel natural to the touch, and they are available in a wide range of sizes and shapes to accommodate different facial structures.

2Mersilene® Mesh Implants

The mersilene® mesh implant is made of a soft, porous material that allows the facial tissue to grow inside of it, bonding it to the facial anatomy. Mersilene® mesh implants are often used in cases where more substantial augmentation is required, as they can be further shaped and molded to fit the contours of the chin and jawline. The main benefits of the mesh is that it is highly customizable and eventually feels like your own tissue.

Frequently Asked Facial Implant Questions

  • How Much Do Facial Implants Cost In Jacksonville?

The average cost of facial implants varies from one community to the other with some small variations. Factors such as the facility where the chin augmentation or cheek augmentation will be performed and the type of anesthesia used will influence the final cost of the surgery. Jacksonville facial implant surgery varies in price range according to these factors. Garcia Facial Plastic Surgery makes facial surgery procedures available and affordable for everyone. Our office provides a wide array of payment options, including easy financing. We also accept cash, major credit cards and personal checks for facial implant surgery and other procedures.

  • Can facial implants be removed?

Yes, facial implants can be removed if desired. Patients may choose to have their facial implants removed for several reasons, such as if they are unhappy with the results, experience complications, or have a change in aesthetic preferences over time.

  • Will facial implants look natural?

Yes, facial implants can look very natural when performed by a skilled and experienced plastic surgeon like Dr. Garcia. In fact, the primary goal of facial implant surgery is to achieve a natural-looking result that is in harmony with the patient’s other facial features.

The key to achieving a natural-looking result with facial implants is selecting the right size, shape, and material of the implant to suit the patient’s individual anatomy and aesthetic goals. Dr. Garcia focuses his time on the consultation process where you will identify the optimal chin or cheek implants for you. Furthermore, you’ll be able to preview the outcome and share any feedback to help ensure the final results are natural and flattering.

  • How is facial implant surgery performed?

Facial implant surgery typically takes one to two hours to perform. It’s done with local/twilight anesthesia. Chin augmentation surgery involves the insertion of an implant into the chin area to add volume and enhance the overall appearance of the jaw. For cheek augmentation, the implants are inserted through tiny incisions inside the mouth. There are no external incisions for chin or cheek implant surgeries, which means there’s no visible scarring.

  • What Is Recovery From Facial Implant Surgery Like?

After undergoing facial implant surgery, patients can expect to experience some swelling and bruising, which is completely normal. Due to the swelling, facial movements like smiling and talking may feel uncomfortable for a few days. Patients may also have to follow some dietary restrictions due to the incisions made inside the mouth. Dr. Garcia can prescribe pain medication to help with any discomfort during the initial recovery period. It’s recommended to take at least a week off from work after the surgery. Gradual resumption of daily activities is allowed, but strenuous activities that may put the face at risk of injury should be avoided for approximately six weeks.
