Frequently Asked Fat Grafting Questions

  • Are there any risks or complications associated with fat grafting surgery?

Like any surgical procedure, there are risks and potential complications associated with fat grafting surgery. These may include bleeding, infection and nerve damage. However, these complications occur in less than 1% of fat grafting procedures. Furthermore, Dr. Garcia’s focus and expertise on liposuction techniques help to minimize the risks associated with fat grafting surgery.

  • Will there be scarring after fat grafting?

In general, fat grafting procedures are designed to minimize scarring, as Dr. Garcia takes care to use the smallest incisions possible for harvesting the fat. Additionally, our goal is to place these incisions in inconspicuous areas to minimize visible scarring. The injection process rarely leaves noticeable scars, as the tools we use for injection can be inserted beneath the skin without sizable incisions.

  • How long does a fat transfer last?

The results produced with fat transfer techniques are permanent. This is because the fat transferred to the treatment areas does not dissolve over time, like a dermal filler would. You can expect your fat transfer results to last for many years to come.

However, it’s important to understand that some of the fat cells will not survive the transfer process and will be absorbed by the body. This is an expected part of the fat transfer process, so Dr. Garcia accounts for this during the planning and execution of your fat grafting procedure. Still, you should expect some fluctuation in your results as the fat cells adjust to the transfer process.

Finally, it’s important to note that the body’s natural aging process and changes in weight can still affect your appearance over time. Maintenance treatments or touch-ups may be needed to maintain your results.
