How Long Will Neck Lift Surgery Take?

Neck lift surgery generally takes 1 to 3 hours and is an outpatient procedure. Typically, this surgery is performed under either local or twilight anesthesia, so you will feel no pain and will have no memory of your procedure. The exact length of surgery will vary depending on the technique used. A full platysmaplasty with neck liposuction, for example, will take longer to perform than a basic cervicoplasty.

How Long Will Neck Lift Recovery Take?

The recovery timeline after a neck lift procedure can vary depending on several factors, although for most patients, it takes approximately 4 to 6 weeks. During the first few days of recovery, patients can expect some swelling, bruising and discomfort in the treatment area. Pain medication will be prescribed to help manage any discomfort. Patients are encouraged to take time off of work through the first 1-2 weeks. After this time, most symptoms should have subsided and you’ll be able to ease back into your normal routine. For the rest of your recovery period, it’s important to avoid strenuous activities, such as exercise, while the body heals. Sun exposure should also be limited for several weeks following the procedure to protect the incision sites from sun damage.
Finally, keep in mind that the final results of the neck lift may not be fully visible until several weeks or even months after the surgery, after the swelling and bruising fully subsides.

Frequently Asked Neck Lift Surgery Questions

  • Is a neck lift a painful surgery?

No, with the anesthetic techniques used at Garcia Facial Plastic Surgery, neck lifts involve no pain or discomfort during surgery. We will either use local or twilight anesthesia to perform your neck lift, which allows patients to relax comfortably throughout the duration of the procedure.

  • What are the risks of neck lift surgery?

Neck lift surgery, like any surgical procedure, does come with risks and potential complications. These can include bleeding, infection, and scarring, as well as other issues related to the healing process. However, it’s worth noting that these complications are rare and occur in less than 1% of neck lift procedures. Additionally, the skill and expertise of a surgeon like Dr. Garcia can help to minimize these risks even further. While there is always some level of risk associated with any major surgery, with the proper care and attention from a qualified surgeon, the likelihood of significant complications is extremely low.

  • Can a neck lift be combined with other cosmetic procedures?

Yes, neck lifts are often combined with other facial surgeries to provide comprehensive rejuvenation without multiple surgery visits. At Garcia Facial Plastic Surgery, we most often perform the neck lift technique in combination with facelifts, mini facelifts and/or neck liposuction. These procedures complement the results of a neck lift to enhance the youthful appearance of the facial features.
