What Happens During a Blepharoplasty Consultation?

During your blepharoplasty consultation with Dr. Garcia, you’ll get one-on-one time to discuss your treatment goals and plan out your upcoming eyelid surgery. This is a great time to ask any questions you may have about your eyelid surgery. Dr. Garcia will take this time to understand your cosmetic goals and identify the surgical techniques that will deliver the best results. He’ll explain exactly what you can expect leading up to, during and after your surgery. We’ll also take before photos during this time so you can compare them to your final results. We suggest coming prepared with questions for Dr. Garcia, and considering some of the questions below.

Questions for Your Blepharoplasty Consultation

1AM I A SUITABLE CANDIDATE FOR EYELID SURGERY?

During your consultation, Dr. Garcia will help evaluate if you’re a good candidate for eyelid surgery. For starters, the fact that you’re considering blepharoplasty is a good indicator that you understand the benefits of treatment. If you are seeking to correct bags under the eyes, puffiness in the eyelids, drooping upper eyelids, or sagging skin and fatty deposits around the eyes, blepharoplasty is the correct procedure to consider. Generally, as long as you’re in good physical health, and are experiencing prominent signs of aging that cannot be addressed with other cosmetic techniques, you are a suitable candidate for eyelid surgery.

2WHAT ARE MY EXPECTED RESULTS?

Dr. Garcia will illustrate your potential results during your blepharoplasty consultation. After discussing your treatment goals and identifying the appropriate surgical techniques, you and Dr. Garcia can explore potential outcomes through before and after photos of previous patients. However, it’s important to keep in mind that it can take a few months for the final results of your eyelid surgery to become visible. This is due to the extensive recovery process that follows blepharoplasty, which can include residual swelling before the tissues settle into their new position.

Blepharoplasty Techniques

The surgical techniques used for your eyelid surgery will vary slightly depending on whether you’re receiving a full blepharoplasty (double eyelid surgery), or surgery on just the upper eyelids or lower eyelids. However, the same underlying techniques are involved in both procedures. For starters, eyelid surgery can be done under local anesthesia, which you are awake for, or general anesthesia, which you are asleep for.

The incisions for upper eyelid surgery are placed in the creases of the upper eyelids. The incisions for lower eyelid surgery are placed underneath the eyelashes, in the first crease of the lower eyelids. Occasionally, lower eyelid surgery can be performed with only an incision on the inside of the eyelid, eliminating any visible scarring. Through these incisions, Dr. Garcia will trim and tighten the skin tissues and muscles in the eyelids. Excess fat will also be removed. Once complete, sutures will be used to close the incisions.

Surgeon Experience?

Surgeon experience is one of the utmost qualities to consider when seeking a blepharoplasty surgeon. Your surgeon is directly responsible for your results, so it’s essential to pursue surgery with an experienced blepharoplasty surgeon. Dr. Garcia is a double board-certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon, demonstrating expertise in all qualities of eyelid surgery. Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long after a blepharoplasty consultation is the surgery?

Generally, the time between your consultation and your eyelid surgery will be somewhere between 1 and 6 weeks. The exact time between the two will depend on a few factors. One major factor is our practice availability, as Dr. Garcia needs to be available for your entire procedure. Additionally, some patients may need a few weeks to fully prepare for surgery, which may include discontinuing the use of certain vitamins, drugs and medications that can negatively interfere with treatment.

  • What should I wear to a blepharoplasty consultation?

During your eyelid surgery consultation, you do not need to wear anything in particular. It is not necessary to undress for a blepharoplasty consultation, so whatever type of clothing you are comfortable in is acceptable. However, we do recommend coming in with clear skin that is free of make-up and other cosmetic products. This allows Dr. Garcia to fully examine the eyelids and develop a treatment plan that meets your needs.

  • How much is a blepharoplasty consultation?

At Garcia Facial Plastic Surgery, the cost of your eyelid surgery consultation is included in your full blepharoplasty treatment cost. To help make patient care more affordable, we are proud to offer a number of financing options that make it easy to fit the cost of eyelid surgery into any budget.

  • What to ask at a blepharoplasty consultation

In addition to the questions covered above, we recommend asking the following questions at your eyelid surgery consultation:

    • What is your experience performing eyelid surgery?
    • Are you board certified in plastic surgery?
    • What risks and complications are possible with blepharoplasty?
    • What results can I expect?
    • What type of blepharoplasty techniques will be used?
    • Are previous patients satisfied with their results?
