What Happens During a Rhinoplasty Consultation?

During your rhinoplasty consultation with Dr. Garcia, you’ll get one-on-one time to discuss your treatment goals and plan out your upcoming rhinoplasty surgery. This is a great time to ask any questions you may have about your rhinoplasty. Dr. Garcia will take this time to understand your cosmetic goals and identify the surgical techniques that will deliver the best results. He’ll explain exactly what you can expect leading up to, during and after your surgery. We’ll also take before photos during this time so you can compare them to your final results. 1AM I A SUITABLE CANDIDATE FOR RHINOPLASTY?

During your consultation, Dr. Garcia will help evaluate if you’re a good candidate for rhinoplasty. For starters, the fact that you’re considering a rhinoplasty surgery is a good indicator that you understand the benefits of treatment. If you are seeking either cosmetic or functional improvements in the nose, rhinoplasty is the correct procedure to consider. Rhinoplasty can address a hump on the bridge of the nose, a large nasal tip, a droopy nose and deviated septums. Generally, in woman the operation can be performed as young as 15 years old and in men as young as 17 years old and are in good physical health, you are a suitable candidate for rhinoplasty.

2WHAT ARE MY EXPECTED RESULTS?

Dr. Garcia will illustrate your potential results during your rhinoplasty consultation. After discussing your treatment goals and identifying the appropriate surgical techniques, you and Dr. Garcia can explore the expected outcome through the use of three dimensional morphing programs where you will be shown an approximation of your outcome. However, it’s important to keep in mind that it can take up to a year for your final results to become visible. This is due to the extensive recovery process that follows a nose job, which can include residual swelling for several months.

Whether you are receiving a cosmetic or functional rhinoplasty procedure, the same underlying techniques are involved. For starters, nasal surgery is usually performed under “twilight” anesthesia where the patient breathes without the use of a tube in the airway throughout the procedure. You will be asleep throughout the procedure, meaning you will experience no pain and will have no recollection of the surgery afterwards. On occasion, if indicated, the procedure may be performed under general anesthesia. The incisions used during rhinoplasty are almost always on the inside of the nose. On rare occasions or in some revision rhinoplasty cases, an incision in the crease at the bottom of the nose may be needed. Both cosmetic and functional issues of the nose can be addressed during the same operation.

    Generally, the time between your consultation and your rhinoplasty surgery is weeks to months. The exact time between the two will depend on a few factors. One major factor is our practice availability, as Dr. Garcia needs to be available for your entire procedure. Additionally, some patients may need a few weeks to fully prepare for surgery, which may include discontinuing the use of certain vitamins, drugs and medications that can negatively interfere with treatment.

  • What should I wear to a rhinoplasty consultation?

    During your rhinoplasty consultation, you do not need to wear anything in particular. It is not necessary to undress for a rhinoplasty consultation, so whatever type of clothing you are comfortable in is acceptable. We recommend removing any nose piercings or jewelry so Dr. Garcia can fully examine the nose.
