What is a Facelift?

A facelift, or rhytidectomy, addresses the signs of aging that affects the face, specifically the neck and lower cheek area. If you are concerned about having jowls and excess neck skin, a facelift may be something to consider.

Who is the Ideal Candidate for a Facelift?

Healthy adults who are in good health and starting to show signs of aging are ideal candidates for a facelift. Patients need to go into this procedure with realistic expectations. Having a facelift will help you achieve a youthful appearance, but it will not stop the aging process. To help your results last longer, it is important that you adhere to a proper skin care regimen.

How is a Facelift Performed?

During the facelift procedure, Dr. Garcia removes any excess skin and tightens the underlying muscles. The facial contours are resculpted, and the skin is redraped. The goal of the facelift is to eliminate sagging, loose facial skin, neck skin and jowls.

To perform the facelift, incisions are made along the hairline and temples. The incisions continue around to the front of and behind the ears. The surgeon then lifts the skin to tighten and resculpt the muscles. The skin is pulled taught over the muscles. Any excess skin is trimmed. If excess fat is removed from the chin and neck, the surgeon will make incisions underneath the chin.
