What is Xeomin®?

Much like Botox® and Dysport®, Xeomin® is an injectable filler made from the neurotoxin known as botulinum toxin type A. When this unique formulation is injected just under the skin, it will soften frown lines, relax forehead wrinkles and reduce the visibility of crow’s feet. The primary difference between Xeomin® and these other injectables is the revolutionary blend of ingredients that can potentially increase the longevity of the treatment and make it a more effective long-term option after multiple uses.

How Much Does Xeomin® Cost in Jacksonville?

The cost of Xeomin® is comparable to both Botox® and Dysport® treatments. In addition to our financing programs, we also accept cash, checks, and all major credit cards.

Why Should I Consider Xeomin®?

While some wrinkles below the cheeks are the result of skin laxity problems and a loss of subcutaneous fat, lines higher up on the face are often the result of contracted muscles. After years of squinting our eyes and making facial expressions, these muscles might become permanently contracted. Once injected into the face, the neurotoxin within Xeomin® will block the chemical reactions that are causing muscle rigidity.

Xeomin® was recently approved by the FDA to treat the same cosmetic issues as Botox®. In many of the clinical studies conducted on Xeomin®, it was found that this product has the potential to be even more successful at treating facial anomalies including fine lines and wrinkles.

How is Xeomin® Administered?

Here at Garcia Facial Plastic Surgery, our team will begin this process by cleaning and marking the injection sites just between the patient’s eyebrows. Xeomin® is then injected into the glabellar muscles just under the skin. Much like Botox®, the full effects of these injections will not become apparent for at least one week. After that time, the muscles will become relaxed, and the wrinkles will fade away. The results of Xeomin® injections typically last for four to six months.

Another important difference between Xeomin® and its alternatives is the fact that this product contains absolutely no additives. Whenever any foreign substance is injected into a patient, their body will immediately begin to produce antibodies to prevent any serious damage. With no additives, however, there is a much lower risk of an allergic reaction taking place. In addition to improving the final results, most patients can have multiple sets of injections before Xeomin® no longer produces the desired effects.

Am I a Good Candidate for Xeomin®?

Xeomin® can be used to treat a wide variety of cosmetic issues, but most patients begin researching this injectable when they notice visible frown lines along their forehead. Some of the other conditions that can be treated with Xeomin® include blepharospasm (an uncontrollable twitching of the eyelids) and cervical dystonia (spastic twists of the head and neck).

There are some minor differences between Xeomin® and Botox®, and that is what makes the initial consultation so important. We ask that all individuals who believe they might be good candidates for Xeomin® schedule an appointment with Dr. Garcia here at Garcia Facial Plastic Surgery. During this consultation, you will learn more about your treatment options and be able to ask any questions you might have regarding injectables.

How Long Will My Xeomin® Procedure Last?

The total length of your procedure will depend on how many units of Xeomin® must be used, but the average patient is in and out of their appointment in under 30 minutes. This is the same amount of time most other injectables require, and these procedures seldom last longer than 20 or 30 minutes unless multiple cosmetic treatments are going to be carried out at the same time.

What Can I Expect After the Xeomin® Procedure?

In rare cases, individuals have experienced short-term visual impairment for a few hours after their treatment. That being said, the most common side effects are redness and inflammation near the injection sites.

Unlike other dermal fillers which immediately add volume to the patient’s skin, the full effects of Xeomin® will not be seen for at least a week. Once the wrinkles become visible, individuals can simply schedule their next set of injections. Due to the fact that overusing Xeomin® can diminish its properties, you might need to wait slightly longer between your treatment sessions.

What Must I do After the Xeomin® Procedure?

  • Immediately following the injections, we suggest that patients use the treated muscles as much as possible. Frowning, moving your eyebrows and making other facial expressions can reduce redness and inflammation.
  • Patients must stay upright for the first hour after their procedure. If you happen to move your head too much, there is a small risk that “pulling” or “running” will occur and the Xeomin® will shift to the wrong part of your face.
  • All patients should refrain from exercising for at least 48 hours after their injections. Even low-impact exercises such as yoga often require an individual to contort into unusual positions, and that could impair the properties of the Xeomin®.
  • Those who would like to wear makeup should apply it with upward strokes on the forehead and downward strokes below their crow’s feet.
  • Patients have the option of taking arnica tablets or bromelain after their treatment to minimize bruising and discoloration. For those who decide to take arnica, tablets should be consumed before and after the surgery. As for bromelain, 500 mg should be taken at least twice a day.
  • You must also avoid all pain relievers (aside from acetaminophen), alcoholic beverages and foods high in vitamin E immediately following your appointment.

How Soon Can I Return to Work After Xeomin® Treatment?

The vast majority of patients can return to work the day after their procedure. A small amount of makeup can be used to cover any visible redness or discoloration.
