The blood is full of powerful growth factors that can aid in many of the body’s natural functions, from hair growth to skin health. At Garcia Facial Plastic Surgery, we specialize in PRP and PRF treatments to help patients enjoy all the benefits of whole blood product therapy. We are proud to offer these techniques to residents of Ponte Vedra, St. Augustine, Jacksonville and the surrounding areas of Florida.
What are PRP and PRF?
PRP and PRF may be used in skin and hair rejuvenation techniques that utilize growth factors in the blood to stimulate healing and other natural functions. PRP is platelet-rich plasma, which is a concentrated solution of blood platelets derived from blood plasma. PRF is platelet-rich fibrin, which is a concentrated solution of platelets derived from the fibrin proteins in the blood. Both serve a similar purpose; releasing growth factors to the body to enhance skin health, diminish signs of aging, stimulate hair growth and more. The main difference between the two is that PRF is a newer application, which may have more significant effects when used to increase skin volume. PRF does not have anticoagulant and is well known for its fibrin sheath.
How Much Do PRP and PRF Cost in Jacksonville?
Because skin rejuvenation treatments are considered elective procedures, most insurance providers won’t cover the costs. Our office makes PRP and PRF affordable and accessible for everyone by providing financing options via CareCredit®. We also accept cash, personal checks, and major credit cards as payment options.
What are the Benefits of PRP and PRF?
PRP and PRF treatments stimulate the natural growth and health of the skin, resulting in enhanced volume, tone and texture. They also stimulate collagen, making them great solutions for increasing skin health long-term. Due to their natural benefits, PRP and PRF are often combined with surgical procedures to accelerate the recovery process. However, they can also be used for a variety of specific cosmetic concerns, including:
- Acne and acne scars
- Hair loss
- Wrinkles, lines, and folds
How Do PRP and PRF Work?
The blood is full of growth factors, which are used to help the body recover after an injury. PRP and PRF treatments develop a concentrated solution of these growth factors. Then, this solution can be injected into an area where a patient has cosmetic concerns. The body will use these growth factors to strengthen and repair the skin in the treatment area. As a result, patients can enjoy dramatic improvements in skin health and appearance without surgery or other aggressive treatments.
What Can I Expect from a PRP or PRF Treatment?
The first step in a PRP or PRF treatment is collecting a sample of blood. After the necessary blood is collected, it will be placed in a machine called a centrifuge. The centrifuge will separate the blood platelets from the rest of the materials in the blood, producing platelet-rich plasma or fibrin. Then, the solution will be injected into the desired treatment area. For this process, we will apply a topical anesthetic, minimizing any discomfort you may experience from the injections. A PRP or PRF treatment typically takes about one hour to complete.
Am I a Candidate for PRP or PRF Treatments?
PRP and PRF treatments are performed using only the patient’s own blood. As a result, there is no risk of infection or allergic reaction. This means that nearly all patients are good candidates for PRP and PRF treatments. If you have any concerns about your eligibility, contact us today to discuss this treatment further.
Is There any Downtime After PRP or PRF Treatments?
After the PRP or PRF treatment, you may notice some swelling or redness in the treatment area due to the injections. However, these effects are temporary and typically fade within a few days. Despite these effects, you will be able to return to work and other activities immediately after your appointment. Because we are injecting you with a needle, there is always a risk of bruising.
What Kind of Results Can I Expect?
It can take a few weeks for the results from your PRP or PRF treatment to become visible, as it can take time for the growth factors to fully take effect in the body. However, patients typically achieve noticeable results within a month of treatment and continue to notice improvements for up to three months or longer. While many patients achieve significant results after one treatment, we often recommend a series of treatment sessions for optimal results. Afterward, we may recommend yearly treatments to maintain these results.
