What are Lash Extensions (Individual Eyelash Extensions)?
Lash extensions (also called individual eyelash extensions) are used to enhance, lengthen and thicken your lashes. Using an adhesive, synthetic individual lashes are placed on your actual individual lashes. Your style can be customized. You can go with the “Classic,” which is one lash placed per your lash, or you can get the “Volume” style, which is two to four lashes placed per your lash. There is also the “Hybrid,” which is a mix of the Classic and Volume styles. Lash extensions are a lot of fun. You can have a very natural look or go with something a bit more dramatic. There are many styles that you can discuss during your consultation!
How Long Do Lash Extensions Last?
Our natural lashes have a growth cycle. We actually lose three to five lashes every day! Lash extensions have the same lifespan as our natural lashes. When our natural lashes fall out, the lash extensions that are attached to those lashes, fall out along with it. Approximately two to three weeks is when a fill-in is required. You will be able to tell when it’s time to fill in your lashes when you see “empty” spots. When you come in for your fill-in appointment, the procedure is shorter than the initial one, lasting 60 to 9o minutes.
About the Lash Extension Procedure
The overall lash extension procedure takes about two and a half to three hours. There is a prep time of about fifteen minutes when the lower lashes are being taped down. You will be laying down in a bed with eyes closed. You can even bring your headphones and listen to your favorite music during this relaxing experience! It’s best to not have any caffeine that day because this sometimes causes fluttering in the eyes. It is also best to not wear any mascara and to come in with clean, fresh lashes to allow the adhesive to work properly. After the procedure, you don’t want to get your lash extensions wet for about 24 hours.
Can I Mascara After My Lash Extensions?
It is advised to not wear mascara when you have lash extensions. When you remove your mascara there is the potential of rubbing off your lashes. To take good care of your lash extensions, you want to avoid rubbing them. When you cleanse your face, always use a non-oil-based cleanser. Most mascara removers are oil based, so it is just best to avoid the mascara when you have your lash extensions.
About Lash Tinting
You can also tint your lashes! Especially ones with lighter colored eyelashes, tinting the lashes dark creates a full effect. Tinting them beforehand is usually an easier process than tinting them with the extensions. You can talk about this process in your consultation! Learn more about eyelash and eyebrow tinting.
