Jacksonville Facelift Surgery
Is facelift surgery right for you? Facelift (or Rhytidectomy) surgery is meant to address the signs of facial aging particularly in the lower cheek and neck. These signs of aging include the jowls in the lower cheek and the excess skin of the neck. If these signs of aging are concerns when one looks in the mirror, the solution is the facelift.
Facial Aging
As the face ages, jowls, which is latin for "broken jawline", begin to develop as a result of the cheek losing its strength with the deeper underlying musculature. As the muscle sags, it takes the more superficial fat and skin with it creating the appearance of a "jowl" along the jawline.
The neck ages in a different manner when the superficial muscle of the neck, called the platysma falls in a downward direction and splays apart in the middle under the chin. This "shifting" of the muscle takes the more superficial fat and skin with it and causes the appearance of aging.
The Facelift Operation
The facelift operation at our Jacksonville plastic surgery center is typically performed under "twilight" anesthesia and does not require our cosmetic surgeon to use surgical accessories and operating room equipment required for general anesthetics. At Garcia Facial Plastic Surgery, we understand your anxious moments. Our staff is committed to providing you with the most comfortable environment possible for your facelift operation or other facial surgery. If you have questions regarding a facelift operation, contact our Jacksonville office to speak directly with a professional about your concerns.
The incisions for facelift surgery are discreetly placed in the creases of the face or within the patient's hairline to minimize post operative signs of the cosmetic plastic procedure. Your facelift surgeon will reposition the sagging or stretched facial muscles to a more natural position and restore the youthful look of your face. Few plastic surgery clinics in Jacksonville have cosmetic facial surgeons with our staffs' experience in performing facelift operations each year. We are dedicated to providing the latest techniques and most advanced equipment to make your facelift surgery the positive experience you deserve.
Our plastic surgeons will never take short cuts during your facelift operation or other corrective cosmetic facial surgery. In order to achieve a natural well-rested appearance, your facial surgeon will separate the sagging muscle from its underlying attachment, lift the facial muscle and suture the muscle once it has been correctly located. To eliminate unsightly areas of sagging facial skin, the repositioned muscles are allowed to heal in their new position restoring the natural features of your face. A facelift does require actual plastic surgery and should be performed by a board certified plastic surgeon with special training in cosmetic facial surgery.
NOTE: While some Jacksonville facelift surgeons advocate endoscopic facelift surgery, sometimes called feather-lift surgery or thread-lift surgery, our cosmetic plastic surgeons at the Garcia Facial Plastic Surgery center do not believe this type of facial surgery produces the same long-lasting restorative results as our facelift operation. If you're confused about the best plastic surgery for your corrective procedure, just ask. We will always take the time to discuss all the cosmetic options for facelift surgery. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
Facelift Recovery
The recovery period from a cosmetic facelift operation (with standard procedures accomplished for facial plastic surgery) is approximately one to two weeks. Swelling from your facelift surgery and normal facial bruising following plastic surgery should disappear after a couple of weeks of facelift recovery. The amount of post-operative pain and discomfort is considered to be minimal for most facelift operations. Following plastic facial surgery, our patients are usually able to manage their post-op discomforts with a couple of days of prescription pain medication or common over-the-counter analgesics. You should discuss all medications that you are currently taking with your Jacksonville plastic surgeon prior to your facelift operation to avoid contraindication.
It is important to remember the "role you play" in the success of your cosmetic plastic surgery or facelift operation. To optimize your opportunity for personal improvement, it is important to be in good health and well-rested at the time of your facial surgery. If you have existing medical conditions, be certain to review these with your plastic surgeon when you visit our Jacksonville office. Our friendly staff of medical professionals will assist with information as to how your recovery time after a facelift operation might impact your job, travels and personal activities. Many of our patients are able to return to work within 7 to 10 days following a facelift operation or plastic facial surgery.

Your plastic surgeon and our qualified Jacksonville staff can discuss ways to improve your diet and your specific needs for supplements to support your body's healing process. Prior to your scheduled facelift operation, inform your facial surgeon of all vitamins, healing herbs and supplements that you are already taking. Our goal is to ensure your facial surgery or facelift produces optimal results with a minimal amount of time away from your normal daily routine. For most facial procedures, our patients return to public activities in 7 to 12 days after their facelift operation. After two weeks, you should be able to resume most physical activities such as running or exercising.
